When I look back at the years that I am working at the soup kitchen Le Phare now I am amazed of how much I am able to do even though I’m not always brave and having all the answers. I heard some of the guests at Le Phare saying: “She is brave to work with homeless!” – “People think I’m brave to work with homeless!? No way! Only the Lord knows how He helps me do that, without Him I’m such a fearful person!” I can testify that even when you’re feeling weak something powerful can happen. Six years Le Phare fill my heart with joy for I see homeless people slowly come back to a normal life.
The three groups we are serving at the soup kitchen are: homeless and poor people and those who feel lonely. I am thankful that during all these years I got help from different people. But in the last time there was not much continuous help. That made it hard for me to continue this work: making myself available for the concerns of our guests, doing visits, shopping, providing a warm meal, serving, washing the dishes … But now I am receiving continuous help from Serve the City volunteers. This is wonderful and I thank God for this!
