Thomas walks. All day everyday, he walks. He remembers how the hot sand`blistered his feet in Ghana, how everyone there hid from the sun’s scorching rays. Not here. He assures his mom he’s not too cold in Brussels, yet. Sleeping at Gare du Nord since May, Thomas is trying to get papers and money to support his son and daughter back home. “Two is enough,” he says, “to provide education for.” As the winter months get colder than any he’s experienced before, he must get a blanket. Sometimes the Serve the City Team brings blankets and clothes when they serve food at the train station. He had a blanket, he says, but someone took it while he slept. At 7:00pm, Thomas excuses himself. “Gotta get a spot early,” or else the usual sleeping spots around the station are taken. Thomas keeps moving, he’s gone for tonight. He won’t get food if he sits, he says, he has to be moving. Always moving. On his bad knee and blistered foot, Thomas walks.
